Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times Review

The end of the world is not a beautiful experience but when it involves killing countless fantasy creatures with a party of badass characters, it starts to become more enjoyable. Welcome to Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times, a mobile tactical turn-based role-playing game that challenges you to lead, command and master the dangerous world that is falling apart around you.

WarhammerQuest2 03

The main chunk of the gameplay within the title is found during the dungeons and environments that you explore and the battles that unfold. As you take on missions and enter the dangers that await, you will sooner or later encounter numerous foes that want you dead. How you deal with them is up to you; full tactical freedom ensures that even though you will be outnumbered, you will never be on the back foot.

Charging in head first is of course a sure-fire way to ensure you die faster than you entered. Where Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times expands the tactical combat is in how you prepare for each fight. Earning experience to level up your heroes, packing items and equipment to be up for the challenge. After all, what good is a warrior without the right sword for the job? It is not all swords though as you will be able to use magic, arrows, maces, and all manner of weapons and equipment. In fact if it is within the Warhammer universe you can bet that it is in here somewhere.

Being on mobile devices, controlling the title is a rather accessible tasks requiring only swipes and taps to explore the whole product. Battles default to a bird’s-eye view, but with a few quick finger movements the camera is adjustable to find the ideal angle to watch the action play out. This links to the visuals of the title which on the iPad Air 2, look stunning.

Highly detailed models and environments keep the experience immersive and engaging, offering a console-like product all on a mobile device. Loading times and frame rates are fine but there are plenty of menus to navigate which have long translations quickly becoming a bore. Besides that though, there are next to no real issues with the visuals, audio and performance of the title. The fact you can pick up and play one or two dungeons, or become engrossed for the long run, playing on mobile is a satisfying experience.

WarhammerQuest2 02

You lead your party through a number of locations as you explore a large region with a range of different objectives to complete and towns to visit. Of course, being a mobile title there is a payment model in place. The initial purchase of the title gives you a full campaign to explore with no restrictions, which offers plenty of content to experience. There are additional campaigns available to purchase with decently sized experiences along with a number of small in-app purchases that offer more gold, items, weapons and more. In terms of value for money you will find plenty within Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times making it a solid purchase.

At the end of the day, if you are looking for an engaging, challenging, and fun tactical role-playing title on mobile devices then look no further than Warhammer Quest 2: The End Times.
