How Accessible is Like A Dragon: Ishin!?

Accessibility in games has been getting better as of late, so you might be wondering how it is in the latest titles. In this article I’ll go over the accessibility options available in Like a Dragon: Ishin!

As more of a remaster than a remake, I thought that there wouldn’t be too many options. I was happy to see that I was mistaken!

Of course, you get the usual options in the setting menu, such as autosave and vibration toggles. The interesting ones start appearing in the controls submenu, allowing you to customise them completely. You can even swap the left and right sticks for moving/camera, something I don’t think I’ve seen before (no this is not the inverted setting). This was on the Xbox Series X, too, so it’s not just on PC.

All of the volume levels are adjustable, and there are extensive subtitle options. Not only can you change their colour, but you can also change the colour of the background they appear on.

Under the Accessibility submenu is where the best options are, as combat in games by developer Ryu Ga Gotoku can be tricky, especially since you now have the option of unarmed, sword, gun, or both. There is Action Assistance to make combat simpler by automatically doing different moves and you can make the quick time events complete automatically, and have the fighting styles change depending on the situation. Heat actions and special moves can also be set to automatic, though this will use up your Heat meter as soon as it fills. If you find it tricky to do combos or tap a button quickly, that can be automated. Finally, there’s an option to make you move closer to enemies during combat so that your attacks won’t miss!

There is also a setting called “Color options” that I’m not sure what it does. The tone of colours seems to change slightly depending on which of the four settings is selected, but the difference is minor. It says that it’s to adjust your screen, but honestly I still have no idea, maybe I’ve just not encountered the colours it changes yet for colour blindness.

So there you have it, Like A Dragon: Ishin!’s accessibility options. I hope that helps you play!
